Bring That Beat Back returns on Saturday, March 6th with performances from L.A.’s Blu & Exile, Brooklyn/Cincinnati’s Tanya Morgan, Chicago’s own Il Subliminal (of Tomorrow Kings), and Eulorhythmics, who will be previewing their new album Green St. and Avers Ave.

The ‘Bring That Beat Back’ concept is an amalgam of All Natural’s ‘Dance to the Drummer’s DB’ beat battle and Ground Lift Media’s ‘Big Bang’ producer showcase. As separate entities, both events focused on Chicago’s untapped fountain of production talent, DJs, and Hip Hop impresarios (Kenny Keys, Tall Black Guy, The Opus) and as a collaboration ‘Bring That Beat Back’ goes one step further by involving established, respected, and nationally renowned performers. On deck for future installments of the event will feature No ID and Flying Lotus. Chicago has always been home to cutting edge, genre-breaking music, and with ‘Bring That Beat Back,’ we aim to further solidify our city’s position as a musical powerhouse within the Midwest, National, and Global music scenes.

Blu & Exile Bio:

Blu is the leader of West Coast Hip Hop. Since the days of Pharcyde, Freestyle Fellowship, and Jurassic 5, there have been few wordsmiths that have grasped the attention of listeners worldwide. Introduced to NWA and Public Enemy by his father, Blu later was captivated by the likes of Black Star, The Roots, and Common, creating a unique balance that is displayed in Blu’s personality and music.

Blu’s first full length LP, Below the Heavens, pairs Blu with producer Exile on the Sound in Color imprint. His first single, “Narrow Path” has rocked stages across the world, as fans begin to feel the impact of Blu’s music. His delivery flows flawlessly, while the content reflects the joy and pain of working class youth everywhere. Since the release of “Narrow Path,” Blu has performed alongside Slum Village, X-Clan, Platinum Pied Pipers, Lyrics Born, DJ Houseshoes, and many others, while participating in 3 high-profile nationwide tours alongside musical family members: Ta’Raach, Aloe Blacc, and Exile.

The buzz has fans salivating for new music. Worldwide, people are looking to put hope into the ‘next’ emcee that will give them the same feeling when they first heard Black Thought, Common, or Slum Village. Blu fulfills this need, but maintains something that is entirely new, while not recycled.

Tanya Morgan Bio:

Back in 2003, Brooklyn’s Von Pea and Cincinatti’s Donwill met over the Okayplayer message boards and began collaborating online. When the duo were joined by Ilyas, Donwill’s partner from Ilwill, Tanya Morgan born. Before releasing their debut album, they had already been featured in XXL’s “Show and Prove” column, and following the release of The Moonlight, more coverage came from Wax Poetics and The Source, among others.Tanya Morgan has collaborated with hip-hop acts such as Nicolay, Fat Jon, 88 Keys. The group performed at Toronto’s NXNE Festival with Nouveau Riche, and the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival with Ghostface Killah, Large Professor, Consequence, and others. They were voted the winner of the “Show Us What You Got” Hip-Hop Artist Competition, held on October 25, 2007 at the Power Summit in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were also featured in XXL’s “Chairman’s Choice” in September 2008, and named in XXLMag.com’s Top Ten Artists in July of the same year. In 2009, they released their latest album Brooklynati to rave reviews from Okaypla

Tanya Morgan’s ‘Brooklynati’ Chicago Tour Stop
Featuring: The Gent$, 1773, Dave Coresh, DJ Trew, DJ RTC (Ruby Hornet), Matt.Boy.White. & 1993

Thursday September 3rd, 2009 @ Subterranean 2011 W. North Ave, Chicago, IL
17+, $10 presale ( www.subt.net), $12 door

Hip-Hop promoters Ground Lift Media, Cold Grums, & Ruby Hornet, in association with Jugrnaut Chicago, Frank151, & Blindiforthekids, are teaming up to host Tanya Morgan’s ‘Brooklynati’ Chicago tour stop.

Bay Area-based record label Interdependent Media released the multi-media project Brooklynati by rap group Tanya Morgan on May 12th, 2009. Highlighting the creativity and throwback sounds of the emcee trio Tanya Morgan, Brooklynati is an album, a place, and a state of mind. With Tanya Morgan providing the soundtrack, the Brooklynati project invites fans to become part of the virtual city of Brooklynati and one of the most involved and intricate marketing campaigns ever created for a hip-hop release. Hot off the success of their critically acclaimed debut album Moonlighting which received nods from ?uestlove, The Source, and XXL, Tanya Morgan is stepping out of hip-hop’s shadow and moving to Brooklynati. Are you coming?

In 2003, Brooklyn resident Von Pea teamed up with Cincinnati’s Donwill and Ilyas to form Tanya Morgan. Three years later, the group’s Moonlighting LP took the rap world by storm, receiving a 3.5 mic rating from The Source and high praise in XXL’s Chairman’s Choice column. Donwill describes the group’s uniqueness and appeal: “Instead of jam-packing our releases with different producers and guest emcees for attention, we carefully choose who we work with because we make it a priority to cultivate our own sound and identity. We look to groups like Eric B & Rakim, who honed their own sound and rarely collaborated with other artists.” After touring the US more than a few times following their debut release, the crew came back in 2008 with release of their mixtape Tanya Morgan is a Rap Group and their EP The Bridge. Brooklynati was released via Interdependent Media on May 12, 2009.

Also performing will be The Gent$ ( Pugs Atomz, Wes Restless, Ill Legit), Lightheaded affiliates 1773 ( Wisdm O.N.E., Just J, Moral One), & collegiate phenom Dave Coresh. DJ sets by DJ Trew ( Ground Lift Media), DJ RTC ( Ruby Hornet), & Matt.Boy.White ( Jugrnaut). Hosted by 1993 ( of Jugrnaut).

Live outside of the Chicago area and still want to ‘attend’ the concert? Check out the entire, LIVE concert stream on Lumeefly.com. Tanya Morgan recorded a video about it, here it goes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9usAVshrvs0

Critical Praise for Tanya Morgan:

” The trio’s latest, the savory The Bridge EP, demonstrates why Tanya Morgan has been a critical favorite for the last several years. Their deliveries are effortless, their beats run the gamut from smooth to boom-bappy, and their music has an inspiring vibe.” – The Source

” Never mind the name — Tanya Morgan is a hip-hop trio with an affinity for soul breaks, big beats and complex, conscious lyrics.” – RollingStone.com
